Few random shots from Practice day for Prodrift at Mondello park, 4th September 2010.

I was going down to Cork and before hand contacted Mike about taking a few photos of his Bridgestone SilEighty. (more…)
I love the paddock area of drift events, for me so much action here goes on here. The paddock has its own life and its own stories, the on track action normally takes the precedence but always remember that so much goes on and has to happen in the paddocks to get the cars on the track. In the paddock the cars reside in there normal mundane daily state a state of reality. In this reality there is always something to be done to be tweaked in advance of the next battle or run. For the general public the cars are always presented to the start finish line no matter what! Ever think what that means… (more…)
Nicely edited footage from Stephen Brooks. Shot at a sun drenched Prodrift Citywest a few weeks back .
City West seen the Prodrift Series arrive for the 3rd round of the championship. Alot of top drivers where there including BDC drivers Paul Cheshire, Danny Eyles and our own Shane Lynch of Boyzone fame. Also championship regulars such as James Deane, Mike Deane, Alan Sinnot, Christy Carpenter, Mike Fitzgerald et al where out in force to to show the BDC drivers how its done.
Pow, spent ages at the start finish line and paddock area with the drifters at Prodrift Citywest. I am always looking for another angle when it comes to drifting and drift coverage or media. As one of my mates said he’s always expecting me to jump out of the bushes from somewhere! I want to give you the reader/audience as much of the experience as possible from a drift event which to be honest is difficult as theres so much going on! Being an enthusiast I am always curious about whats going through the drifters head on the start/finish line. Different people handle it in different ways from total relaxation to a state of ‘in the the zone’! I tried to catch as many as possible off the line. All I can say is its in the eye! (more…)
Yo…following on from our last post on ‘Wall Taggers’ we have decided to keep it going. I got some great feedback from the drifters at Prodrift Citywest regarding the art of a great wall tag! The art for me is when the driver premeditates the wall tag…taking a line to get as close to the wall as possible with the intention of kissing and not tagging! Its a fine line too…right and the results are amazing, wrong and it hits you in the pocket big style. Citywest wall taggers…mild n wild! (more…)
As always its great to see Team Japspeed on Irish soil, Paul and the guys always have the cars presented in a most professional and immaculate way…the right way in my opinion. It is a really big commitment in terms of blood sweat and tears to keep four cars on the track and four very different competitive at cars at that. You guys are a major asset to the drift world.
Chris Brady is a relative newcomer to Prodrift and exploded onto the scene in round two at Punchestown, however at a round 3 in Citywest dude you have arrived as a drifter and sportsman! For those who missed out on Saturday check out Damien O’Connors previous post. Essentially a simple story of genuine sportsmanship was to unfold. Barry Leonard was on fire all day but in I think it was a top 16 battle as he crossed the line his differential literally could take no more and with a loud bang was no more. Barry had about twenty minutes to find a replacement diff as the remaining battles were taking place.
Over last weekend at Prodrift round 3 in Citywest I spent some time round the Paddock and the start finish line with Nigel Colfer. Up until the last event Colfer was leading the championship from James Deane in second place. However the weekend didn’t go according plan for Nigel with James Deane knocking him out in the top 8 and going on to win the event on the day.
James Deane extended his lead in the overall Prodrift driver’s standings by taking maximum points today at RD 3 at the Sun Drenched Citywest venue in Co.Dublin. Not only did the 18 year old triumph to overall victory, he also had the best ” Super Lap” of the day which will increase his dominance at the top of the Championship leaderboard. (more…)
Hankook in Ireland have been one of if not the largest tire sponsor in the Irish drift scene from the early days. They have supported a lot of drivers and cars down through the years with great success. The latest pairing of Alan Sinnott and Alan Lenihan is indeed very strong with Sinnott currently running 3rd and Lenihan in the top 10. Both cars are always immaculately prepared and professionally turned out. I know the sponsorship means great deal to both drivers and long may it continue. Best of luck to both drivers in the next rounds.
Unfortunately I couldn’t make it to Prodrift RD 2 on Saturday for the amateur and non seeded pro classes but did make my way down on Sunday morning for the pro class. It was a great day and thanks to the sun gods the rain stayed away. I spent most of the day treading around the paddock constantly shooting and trying to get to grips with the camera. I’ll bring you those shortly in another post and give you an insight into what was going down in the paddock area.
Last weekend I paid a visit down to Wexford in the southeast of Ireland where one of Irelands top drifter Nigel Colfer resides. I thought that I lived in the back ass of nowhere but Ms Sat Nav brought me on a grand tour de force of back ass down to Nigel’s place! As I pulled up Nigel was out carrying out the last few tweaks to the 2010 car in preparation for Prodrift round 2 in Punchestown this weekend. Its been a while since I have seen a car ready a full week before an event (normally night or morning before an event!) but I think it shows how serious Nigel is about the 2010 season.
As you can probably tell this is the first time I’ve taken pictures with a camera thats bigger than a box cigarettes! I have taken two sets of pictures of Nigel Colfers 2010 1JSX drift car, one set here in colour and another set sepia which you’ll find in the next blog post. I decided to dedicate the full car review to the ones taken with the sepia setting as I think they look a lot better.
Okay so its time finally to get this blog rocking n rolling! First up is a quick review of Prodrift round 1 in Fermoy from Karl and crew. Round 2 is just around the corner this weekend in Punchestown and as always promises to be an excellent event.
