The beginning of September saw my first visit to the land of my fathers (well, great great grandfather). I was invited over by SleepyCat Photography’s Colin and Glenda to capture the day on their behalf as they wouldn’t have any time to take photos themselves due to them playing a major role in the organisation of the event. Drifting has dominated our lives for the last couple of years…… or so we thought.

Round 5 of Drift Allstars brings the series back to the UK after the two rounds on the continent. A change of date and venue meant an extended mid season break and also meant there was a cloud of doubt hanging over this rescheduled event due to the riots that broke out in Birmingham just days before. My second visit to Teesside this year and we had blazing sunshine again. This time the sun was accompanied by searing heat. It was an absolutely gorgeous day weatherwise for the spectators, however the drivers were struggling a bit. As the day wore on and the temperatures rose they had to use the practice run before each battle just to slowly drive round the track trying to cool the engines. (more…)
Sunday 15 May 2011 – Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK, Washington
Professional drifting returned to the Nissan Manufacturing plant in the North East of England with round 2 of the Drift Allstars European Series (formerly JDM Allstars). The day after Round 1 of the Drift Allstars European Series, Scotty invited me up to skylinepart.com HQ to photograph Filippo Pirini’s Mazda MX5 (Miata) NB which Scotty described as “a work of art”. Well, I couldn’t refuse could I? Filippo has been staying with Scotty until Round 2, with both rounds being held here in the North East. When I got to the farm, a stunning example stood before me (the car not Scotty).

It was Middlesbrough, so it was windy. But not too much. It was also sunny – another bonus. And it was the Drift Allstars European Series 2011 season opener. Built from the ground up in 2008, competed in 2009, killed in 2010 and now reborn in 2011 the skylinepart.com Rocket Bunny drift car is back with a new heart and new appetite. Ready to kick some sweet ass, the Nissan S13 SR20 Sil80 – more commonly known as the ‘Rocket Bunny’ due to the body kit it sports – is going to be a force to be reckoned with this season. (more…)
Scenes of the devastation caused by the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan have shocked the world and the drift community has rushed to help the victims of this tragedy in the motherland of our sport.
The SleepyCat Crew made the journey to a sunny Mondello Park on Saturday for the Drift Practice, and as it was fully booked there was constant action all day.
