Prodrift round 3 Punchestown 2011

Well well well…BOOM! Finally I get to my first Prodrift event this year, due to work commitments I missed the first two rounds. Its the first year since its inception or close to it I have missed more than 1 round, whether it was working on mates cars or working with Karl O’Sullivan on the onboards it was always an almost religious calender for me lol! Upon arrival the weather was not looking so good, the Prodrift crew were battling with the judging tower which was trying to take flight. The tower was partially dismantled and made safe by the guys and the judges were moved inside to one of the more comfortable suites at the Punchestown racecourse…lucky for them. Outside the photographers and wanna be photographers like myself were embracing the weather…goddamn it was cold and wet and nasty. (more…)

Prodrift RD2 Paddock

Ok people this is a picture post from around the Paddock on Sunday at Punchestown with round upon us this weekend in Citywest we’ll have a quick look back at the last round. I probably spent more time in Paddock just walking around chatting and catching up with mates than I did watching the action. Heres a few pics…

Prodrift RD2 People

Wandering around the paddock on Sunday you’re greeted with all the cars, the drift machinery and tyres but behind all the cars are the people the drivers. I remember last year or the year before Paddy McGrath did a series of photos ‘behind the visor’ which were instinctively ingrained in my head because of the quality and style of the pictures but also because its something we tend overlook with all the emphasis and attention going going on the cars. The people within drifting are really important to me, whether its the driver, the mechanic, the guy changing the wheels…whoever. Its the people who make the community what it is. Heres a few snaps of some who’ll you know and some you may not.

Prodrift RD2 Team Hankook

Hankook in Ireland have been one of if not the largest tire sponsor in the Irish drift scene from the early days. They have supported a lot of drivers and cars down through the years with great success. The latest pairing of Alan Sinnott and Alan Lenihan is indeed very strong with Sinnott currently running 3rd and Lenihan in the top 10. Both cars are always immaculately prepared and professionally turned out. I know the sponsorship means great deal to both drivers and long may it continue. Best of luck to both drivers in the next rounds.

Prodrift RD2 Wall Taggers

Whatever is about it everyone loves to see a good smack at a drift event! As sick as it may seem its just true. At round 2 of Prodrift in Punchestown the carnage was minimal enough though to the delight of the drivers and disappointment of the crowd…1-0 to the drivers lol! However a few guys did decide to embrace the wall and other drivers with tags, kisses, grazes and some outright blatent mounting manouvres, but nothing too serious.

Prodrift RD2

Unfortunately I couldn’t make it to Prodrift RD 2 on Saturday for the amateur and non seeded pro classes but did make my way down on Sunday morning for the pro class. It was a great day and thanks to the sun gods the rain stayed away. I spent most of the day treading around the paddock constantly shooting and trying to get to grips with the camera. I’ll bring you those shortly in another post and give you an insight into what was going down in the paddock area.
