Last weekend I paid a visit down to Wexford in the southeast of Ireland where one of Irelands top drifter Nigel Colfer resides. I thought that I lived in the back ass of nowhere but Ms Sat Nav brought me on a grand tour de force of back ass down to Nigel’s place! As I pulled up Nigel was out carrying out the last few tweaks to the 2010 car in preparation for Prodrift round 2 in Punchestown this weekend. Its been a while since I have seen a car ready a full week before an event (normally night or morning before an event!) but I think it shows how serious Nigel is about the 2010 season.
Last year was a mixed year for him with some great performances intertwined with car failures. He said it was really a shakedown or development year for him for the 1J in the S body. The season came to a dramatic end with the normally bulletproof jizzer letting itself go in style. Moving on from there and learning from the mistakes in the off season he set about improving the car in every department with the smallest of tweaks here and there.
The biggest job was obviously sourcing and hooking up the new engine and then off to East Coast Customs to dial it in to 430bhp. In my haste and talking blah blah with the other dude I forgot to take pictures of the engine doh! Anyways I’ll hopefully sort it this weekend at Punchestown. The remainder of the changes were all based around handling and suspension components, he said he had learnt so much from the previous year and now it was time to sort them all out with the overall objective of gaining more grip and making the car feel better. Well the changes so far are paying dividends as he took second place in round 1 of Prodrift in Fermoy in April.
Here a spec list for all you spec whores!…ah its kinda long!
Kouki’s…
The car is wearing a combination of various Origin, Uras and Japspeed clobber. I think it works really well together, I was never sold on the older colour scheme but the new silk black looks both impressive and aggressive. The graphics are simple if not alittle funky and as usual can make or break a car…I can see people either loving or hating it.
Dont know if many of you know this car or have heard it in action but it does make some gorgeous noises climbing the rev counter…deep, crackly and above all immense. It’ll be heard loud and clear this weekend and hopefully the noise will be converted into points in the bag.
Best of luck Nigel this season.
Car looks even better than before even though I loved it originally.
This man is the driver I’m backing for definate this year.
Looking forward to seeing the new look out in action sunday
Sweet , sweet , sweet !!
Cool feature lads , and best of luck Nigel !!
